When you need to release the underlying emotional content of whatever is trapped in the body I aim to provide a safe, nurturing space and use techniques to support whatever needs to happen.
Emotions are part of our daily functioning and the limbic system of the brain is involved with the emotional aspects of behaviour. Unexpressed emotions can be stored in the body and we all have places where these stored emotions can “back up”; the shoulders, stomach, lower back and jaw are common places where this happens. As we give expression to emotions we can initiate the release of tension in the body so I encourage clients to release in whatever way is appropriate. This could be a kick, a growl, a shout, a laugh, crying or any way the emotion wants to move.
When levels of adrenaline and corticosteroids are too high in the body we need to be able to breathe deeper to allow the release of neuropeptides. I use techniques that enable this to happen in a safe environment.
